Athens, Texas - A celebration of the life of Randall "Randy" Blackmon, 79, of Athens, is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Athens First Methodist Church.


Randy passed away on May 18, 2025, in Tyler.


Randy was born on July 13, 1945, in Dallas, Texas, the son of Robert James and Cassie (Burnett) Blackmon, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a dedicated member of Athens First Methodist Church, the Discovery Sunday School class, and the Methodist Men's organization.


He served in the U.S. Air Force in Alaska and Florida as a firefighter, and he was also part of the Apollo Missions Rescue and Recovery Team. In 1973, Randy began his career as a firefighter/law enforcement officer at DFW International Airport.


Randy is survived by his wife, Sharon Blackmon of Athens; sons Keith Blackmon (Jennifer) of Dripping Springs; and Brett Blackmon (LeeAnn) of Bastrop; daughters Sandy Gross (Jimmy) of Kyle; and Sally Nowlin of Mesquite. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, as well as Marcia Blackmon of Henderson, Nevada, the mother of his sons.
