Services for Kathy Stephens Skiles, 69, of Athens, are scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Autry's Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel in Athens at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Dave McGee officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens. Visitation will take place at 6-8 P.M. on Friday, November 22, 2019, at the funeral home.

Kathy passed to her heavenly home on November 20. She was born in Athens, Texas on June 29, 1950, to Garland and Dorothy Stephens.

Kathy was a lifelong resident of Athens and a member of the Dogwood Baptist Church. She attended Athens High School and Henderson County Junior College where she trained as a cosmetologist and instructor. Kathy began her career at Mr. Earl's Beauty Salon and then served for many years as Director of Cosmetology at Trinity Valley Community College and Kilgore College until her retirement in 2003. She also served on numerous boards of the Texas Cosmetology Commission and was always very proud of the countless cosmetologists in East Texas that she trained during her tenure.

Kathy had a servant's heart, loved unconditionally, and ministered to many. She loved Jesus, travelling, soap operas, and cooking for others. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. Her laugh was robust; her warmth welcoming.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Danny Skiles; three sons, Greg Skiles and Brad Skiles (Trayona Pool Skiles) of Athens, and Rhett Skiles (Jill Maguire) of Washington, DC. "Mama Kat" is also survived by grandchildren, MaKayla Owens, Brittani, MaKenzie, and Courtni Skiles of Athens, Henry, Hattie, and Hagen Skiles of Washington, DC, and bonus grandchildren, Cable and Rebecca Campbell, Castle, Carson, and Coleman Campbell; one great grandchild, Winston Owens, and bonus great grandchildren Lyle Owens, Coral and Cambria Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also, always by her side was her beloved Maltese dog, Toby.

Pallbearers are Randall K. Skiles, John Eaton, Allan Westmoreland, Lonnie Andress, Steve Harris, and Justin Gunnels. Honorary pallbearers are Garland Pool and Jimmy Hocutt.

As Kathy had an immense love for animals, please consider donating to the Henderson County Humane Society, 901 W College St. Athens, Texas 757571 in her memory in lieu of flowers.
