Private graveside services for Delmer Ray Hood 91, Murchison were held at 10:00 A.M. Friday September 13, 2019 at Oaklawn Memorial Park with Bro. Louie Adams officiating, under the direction of Autry's Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
Delmer passed away peacefully at his home in Murchison Tuesday morning.
Delmer was born August 15, 1928 in Henderson County to the late Walter Lee Hood and Lela Grace Hancock Hood. He was a resident of Murchison for 91 years and served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he earned a Purple Heart. Delmer was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Delmer retired after 48 years of service with Lone Star Gas Production/Enserch Exploration Inc. as a gauger. He was a farmer and rancher, He loved to be on his John Deere tractor and did custom hay bailing for many people in the Blackjack community. He enjoyed his many trips to Galveston with Jeff and Julie and especially loved his weekend car rides in the country admiring the countryside and wildlife.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Bessie Marie Griffin Hood, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
Survivors include sons; Delmer Ray Hood Jr. of Murchison, Jeffrey Max Hood of Athens, daughter; Julie Marie Hood Anderson and husband Ronny of Murchison, grandchild; Rachel Ann Hood of Colorado Springs, Colorado, step grandsons; Jason Phillip Anderson of Sweden, Jeffrey Norman Anderson of Lufkin, 2 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters all of Lufkin, sister; Jeanette Corley and husband James of Dallas, numerous nieces and nephews, his beloved dog Pee Wee and feline friends Prissy and Tigger.
The family would like to thank Harbor Hospice for the care and compassion they gave Delmer during his illness.
