Billy Franklin Lane
Billy Franklin Lane was born in Dallas, TX Nov. 11, 1930 to Claude Franklin Lane and Lola Moon Lane. He died at the age of 89 on Feb. 15, 2020 in Athens, TX.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Lorene Olga Lane; his parents and two sisters, Lola Lane McCreary and Lera Lane Penney. Also preceding him was a son-in-law, Mike Blakely.
He attended Dallas schools until his family moved to Henderson County in 1938. He also attended Cross Roads school before volunteering for service in the United States Air Force.
In the Air Force, he was stationed at Randolph Field in San Antonio.
After his discharge from the service, he and his family moved to Athens and he began buying real estate and working in sales.
In 1964, Billy and his father opened Lane Mobile Homes in Athens. They also developed the Colonial Acres subdivision where he built several of the homes himself.
Over the years, he worked as a rancher, TV and radio repairman, salesman, real estate developer, building contractor, carpenter, and owner of several businesses.
During his retirement years, he especially enjoyed taking cruises with his wife, ballroom dancing, cooking, reading, and gardening.
He is survived by his two daughters, Linda Blakely and Diane Lane of Athens; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Linda Lane of Athens; and a sister Betty Lane Coker of Tyler along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Pam Holcomb and the staff of Arabella and Genesis Hospice for their care and concern.
There will be a private family service at a later date.
