Walter's Story

Walter L. Cannon, Jr. of Athens, TX passed away Friday, January 13th, 2017, at the Dallas VA Medical Center, after a brief illness resulting from Congestive Heart Failure. He was 80.

Walter was born August 27, 1936, in Nashville, TN. Walter served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also served as a Soldier in the Salvation Army. He lived in Oakwood Place in Athens, TX for the last few years of his life near family.

Survivors include 2 sisters, Ann Cannon of Asheville, NC and Judy (Junk Pile) Haigh of Norwalk CT; One Daughter, Cyndy (Booger Baby) Cannon Robertson of Larue, TX; One Son, Walter (Pookie) L. Cannon, III of Mulvane, KS; and 3 Grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, TX, Wednesday, January 18th at 10:00. We are sure he would appreciate a Memorial Donation given to the Salvation Army in lieu of flowers.
