Ruth Elizabeth Neel Mitchell, age 75, passed away on February 17, 2017 in Malakoff, Texas. She was born on January 2, 1942 in Elkhart, Texas to Dale and Rachel Denson Neel. She graduated from Palestine High School in 1960.
After graduation, she attended business school in Dallas. She later was employed by the Republic National Bank of Dallas, where she later met and married her husband Fred Rowland Mitchell Sr. They later returned to Athens to live and raise their family. After moving back to Athens, Ruth was employed by First National Bank of Athens and Attorneys Title.
Ruth enjoyed baking, playing cards, and dominos. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and doing things with her sisters, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Fred Mitchell; her brother Larry Neel and sister Bobby Smith.
Survivors include her two daughters, Rhonda Saylor and husband Jerry of Malakoff, Sherri Purselley and husband Danny of Eustace. Her sons Rowland Mitchell Jr. of Ballinger, and Morgan Mitchell and wife Deana of Malakoff; her sisters Virginia Cooper and husband Marlin of Palestine, Carol Wise and her husband Clyde of Bryan; her brother David Neel and wife Georgianna Neel of Oakwood; her sister-in-law Pat Mitchell of Athens; her grandchildren, Travis Mitchell of Athens, Jerry Saylor Jr. of Gadsden AL, Seth Purselley of Anchorage, AK, Gabe Purselley of Eustace, Whitney Mitchell of Tyler, Luke Mitchell and Trevor McCloud of Malakoff. Krysten Graham and husband Justin of Crossroads.; great-grandchild Waylon Graham of Crossroads. Numerous nieces and nephews also surviving.
