Funeral services for Lenard W. Anstead, 77, Athens, have been scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday June 1, 2017 at the Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Joe Warren officiating.
Lenard passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 peacefully in Athens.
He was born March 16, 1940 in Ralls, Texas. to the late Lenard Mansel and Autrey Peddy Anstead. Lenard was raised in Ralls, Texas, and graduated from Ralls High School in 1958. Lenard moved to Dallas to pursue his career, graduating from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in 1960.
In 1962, he obtained his Funeral Director/Embalmers license, which he proudly held for 55 years. He resided in Dallas for many years, and worked for the Sparkman family-owned funeral homes, and eventually became manager at the Sparkman-Hillcrest location. In 1982, he fulfilled his dream by moving to Athens, and purchasing Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. In 2000, Carroll-Lehr expanded to its current location.
Lenard proudly served this community for 35 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Athens, and was a true servant to the Lord, and unselfish giver to the community, putting the families he served, friends and others first.
Survivors include: his friend Roland de Castro, Jr., Athens; adopted son, Bryon de Castro, United States Marine Corps.; sister; Jan Brown, Grand Prairie; nephew, Chad Brown, Burleson; great-niece, Lexi Brown, Burleson; uncle, George Bowers, Tenaha; numerous cousins and great cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Henderson County Food Pantry, 715 E. Corsicana St. Athens, TX 75751.
