Joel (Butch) Warner Hudgins, 78, of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 after suffering heart complications.
Joel was born in Commerce, Texas on March 21, 1939. He spent many years in Abilene, Texas, where he graduated from Abilene High School, and attended McMurry College. Joel also spent many years in Phoenix, Arizona and San Diego, California before returning to Texas.
Joel is survived by: his three daughters, Tonita Guy, Terry Hudgins, and Tracy Bentley and husband Tom; five granddaughters, Marcia, Sarah, Cecelia, Shannon, Michelle; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Sharon Willeford.
Joel is also survived by: his much-loved stepchildren, Michael McFarland and wife Poonam, Marc McFarland and wife Linda, Peggie Alderson Huntley, Danielle Alderson; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Marc, Alicia, Amanda, Dillon, Blake, Kailyn; and eight step-great-grandchildren. Joel was anticipating the arrival of his 13th great-grandchild, Adalind, next week.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margo A. Hudgins, in 2002.
Joel loved his family and friends, and was never happier than when he was sharing time with them. He has left us with some incredible memories.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Eubank Cedar Creek Memorial Park in Mabank, Texas.
