Funeral service for J.W. Asher will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2016 in Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with Hoby Williams, Pastor, Grace Country Church, Fletcher, officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Highland Cemetery.
J.W. Asher, age 81, Lawton, died Monday, November 7, 2016 at his residence. He was born December 1, 1934 in Murchison, Texas to Alton and Lois (Saxon) Asher. J.W. attended first through eighth grades at Murchison, Texas and was a 1953 graduate of Athens High School in Athens, Texas. He also attended college for two years at Henderson County Junior College. He married Jerry Ann Miller on August 3, 1960 in Murchison, Texas. She preceded him in death on January 17, 1994.
J.W. worked for Chance Vought Aircraft at Grand Prairie, Texas for three years before entering the U.S. Army. He served in the Army from April 1958 to April 1960. Following his discharge he worked for Universal CIT until August of 1981. He then owned and operated Asher Finance for 13 years in Lawton, selling the business and retiring in 1994.
He was a member of the Solo's Square Dance Club and served as president numerous years. He was also a member of the South Central Square Dance Association and had served as president of the South Central District one year. He attended First Baptist East in Lawton.
He is survived by his son, Bruce Wayne Asher, Lawton; four grandchildren, Danna Norman, Haley, Heather and Hunter Asher; three great grandchildren, Stormie Norman and Jazzlynn and Raylynn Caldwell; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His son, Jim W. Asher, Jr., and a sister, Wanda Jackson, preceded him in death.
