Ezem (E.G.) Gillian Scarborough, Jr. of Palestine, entered the Heavenly Gates on July 1, 2016. E.G. was 80 years old. He was born on April 18, 1936 to Ezem Gillian and Genever (Holcomb) Scarborough Sr. at Brushy Creek in Anderson County. He married Martha Christene Arnold in 1962.
E.G. was a graduate of La Poynor High School. He obtained an Associates Degree from Henderson County Junior College, a Bachelors Degree in Technical Chemistry from Sam Houston State University, and a Masters Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. E.G. worked for Cayuga ISD for 42 years as a teacher, principal, and superintendent before his retirement in 2002. E.G. was a Gideon and member of Southside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.
E.G. is survived by his son Mark (Ginger) Scarborough; grandchildren, Madisen, Morgan, and Grant Scarborough of Bryan; brother, John Buck (Gail White) Scarborough; brother-in-law, Clarence (Lynette) Evans; nieces and nephews, Karen Ellis, Renee Evans, Billy (Kendra) Scarborough, and Lee (Cindy) Evans; numerous great nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
E.G. was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Christene, sister-in-law Wanda Evans, and beloved cousin Hebron Earl Scarborough.
Pallbearers: Dr. Rick Webb, Bill Shead, Gary Holcomb, Murray Holcomb, Jim Turnage, Grady Henry, Larry Holcomb, Todd Winkel, Shelby Lambright, and Benny Toole.
Honorary Pallbearers: Herbert Davis, Dr. Linden Parrish, Joe Becton, Barry Cook and Adult 7 Men's Sunday School Class at Southside Baptist Church.
Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Bailey and Foster Funeral Home in Palestine, Texas.
Funeral services will be held on July 7, 2016 at Southside Baptist Church in Palestine, Texas at 10:00 AM with Bro. Lee Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery, Brushy Creek, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the E.G. Scarborough Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Cayuga High School, P. O. Box 427, Cayuga, TX 75832.
