Funeral services for Donald S. Hatton 86, Murchison, were held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Murchison. Burial will follow at Red Hill Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday May 14, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Murchison. Services are under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.
Donald was born in Opelika on August 5, 1930 to Clifton and Lela Hatton. At an early age, he heard the call to protect, and joined the U.S. Military. On leave, he met the love of his life, Bertha Ann Fowler, who he shared a wonderful 64 years of marriage. The two had four beautiful children, Don Jr., Diane, Debbi and Darla. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, Donald went to work for the Cotton Belt Railroad, and built three successful buisnesses in Murchison. Tex Ann gas station, Murchison Laundry and car wash.
Donald loved his family, his country and his land.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Lyndal; and sisters, Candy and Peggy.
He is survived by: his wife, Bertha Ann Hatton; son and daughter-in-law Don and Patsy Hatton of Athens; daughters, Diane Hatton-Milner of Murchison, Debbi Hatton of Huntsville and Darla and Scott Williams of Opelika. His 10 grandchildren and 7-3/4 great-great-grandchildren were the love of his life, Terry Brockelman, Cindy Baker, Veronica Hatton, Jeremiah Hatton, Justin Milner, Ashlee Scoggins, Peyton, Bryce, Zachary and Casey Williams, Ashton, Jace, Jadie and Ryder Milner, and soon-to-be-born baby girl Scoggins. Donald is also survived by brothers Roger and Philip Hatton and two sisters Phylis Curtis and Sandra Hatton.
The family would like to express their gratitude and love for Donald's adopted family at the Logan-Watkins Veterans Home in Tyler.
