A Celebration of Life for Connie Jo Russell will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 3pm at Trinity Valley Community College Auditorium. Connie was born in Dallas, TX on September 7, 1940 to parents Joseph and Chelsea (Newton) Russell and entered into eternal rest on July 22, 2016 at the age of 75. Connie was known as "CJ" to her family and friends. She graduated from W.W. Samuel High School in Dallas in 1959 and earned both her bachelor and master degrees in Kinesiology from East Texas State College in Commerce, TX. Connie loved to travel and enjoyed playing golf. Her passion was being a coach for the Cardinal Cheerleaders at TVCC in Athens, TX. Under her direction they won 5 NCAA National Championships and were selected to participate in the opening ceremonies of the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, GA. She was a champion for the TVCC athletics program, having revived the women's basketball team, mentored thousands of students, and most recently was inducted to the TVCC Hall of Fame for her accomplishments. Over the years she also coached the Paris Junior College Cheer Squad, the USA Spirit Team and served as a judge both nationally and internationally for cheer competitions. Connie was a fun and loving person that everyone enjoyed being around. She will be missed immensely by those who knew and loved her.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents and brother Fred Byron Russell.
She is survived by her loving niece Marilyn Russell of Austin, and her aunts Virginia Allen of Gun Barrel City and Joyce Anderson of Albuquerque, NM and many cousins.
