Clyde Elwyn Cumbie, Sr.'s Story
Clyde Elwyn Cumbie, Sr., 89, passed from this life on March 31, 2017. Clyde was born on January 25, 1928, in Gilmer, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, S.L. and Lorena Cumbie and his daughter, Candace.
Clyde was a WWII veteran, serving in the U. S. Navy. He lived much of his life in Dallas, Texas, owning Cumbie's Paint and Floor for 42 years. He was a faithful member of the Hawn Freeway Church of Christ, serving as an elder for 20 years. Clyde retired to property he owned in Murchison, Texas, and began worshipping with the Eastern Hills Church of Christ in Athens, Texas, where he served as an elder for 5 years. Clyde loved ranching, growing crops, and raising animals. He loved to hunt and fish, and was proficient using his hands to repair and build around his ranch. He built his dreamhouse on the land.
Clyde is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joan Cumbie of Murchison, Texas, son Clyde Cumbie, Jr. and his wife Linda of Dallas, son Clifford Cumbie and his wife Vonda of Rowlett, Texas, and daughter Cynthia Richardson and her husband Ernest of Plano, Texas.
Clyde is also survived by his nine grandchildren, Thomas Lamb of Tyler, Texas, Cortney Jackson of Glenview, Illinois, Brian Richardson of Tyler, Texas, Patrick Lamb of Bend, Oregon, Colin Cumbie of Norman, Oklahoma, Kyle Richardson of Plano, Texas, Cara Pauley of Lewisville, Texas, Lindsey Cumbie of Rowlett, Texas and Dillon Cumbie of Rowlett, Texas, along with seven great-grandchildren.
