Funeral services for Billy Ray Boatman 81, Athens, have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Sand Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Erick Graham officiating.
Burial will follow at Post Oak Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
Billy Ray passed away Thursday morning in Athens.
He was born June 28, 1935 in Garrison, Texas to the late Floyd and Lela Bell Boatman. Billy Ray had been a resident of Athens for the past 10 years, and was a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church. He loved to play 42, and had a passion for hunting and gardening.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers Elmer Boatman, J.M. Boatman and Lexie Boatman; sister, Dorlene Weatherly.
Survivors include: his wife of 10 years, Linda Boatman, Athens; daughters; Patti Merriman, Etoile, Texas, Janet Tolbot and husband Todd, Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandson,Colby Merriman, Etoile, Texas, step-daughters, Terri Downey and husband David, Malakoff, Cheryl Naylor and husband Rusty, Waco, Kay Downey and husband Don Paul, Malakoff, Jeanette Anderson and husband Jeff, Canton, Crystal Stephens and husband Scott, Nederland; sister, Dena Faye Corley, Garrison; brother-in-law, J.F. Weatherly, Dallas; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Jordan, Bill Valentine, Joe Graham, Roddy Waites, Homer Martin, Larry Bass, Ray Don Slagle, Lynn Wymore, Travis Mason and John Overturf.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday evening from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
