Memorial services for Bessie M. Philbrick, 80, of Athens have been scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Fondren officiating.
Bessie passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 21, 2016.
She was born March 23, 1936 in Athens to the late Arthur Dalton and Ruth Cochran Carter. She left Athens at the age of 18 and moved to Dallas where she met and married Bill Chandler, There, they raised their four children until 1971. In 1972 Bess married Richard "Dick" Philbrick and they shared 42 years together. They spent the first years of marriage in West Texas. Bess retired from Pennzoil Corporation in 1987, where she worked as a manager in Human Resources. Shortly thereafter her and Dick returned to her home town. During her later years she was an active member of the Rebecca Lodge, where she served a term as Grand Nobel. She also served many years as a volunteer "Pink Lady" at ETMC. There was nothing more precious to her than being surrounded by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dick, her parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her four Children; Richard Chandler and wife Nancy, Athens, Stephen Chandler and husband Walter Cline, Orting, Wa., Donald Chandler and wife Debbie, Joshua and Creta Chandler, Athens, grandchildren; Chris Chandler and wife Sara, Zachary Sullivan and wife Bri and Sara Nichols, great grandchildren, Zachary and Toby, brother, Howard Carter and wife Pat, Jasper, sister; Jean Turner and husband Leroy, Athens. She was also blessed with many wonderful nieces and nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation and thanks to Brae and Shelisha from Heart-To-Heart for the love, care and comfort they gave Bess during her journey to heaven.
