Thomas Howard Hardy died at his home in Malakoff, TX, on Sunday, September 10, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife, Mercedes Harkey Hardy, son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Sarah Hardy, of Ft. Worth, and daughter, LaTesha Hardy of Arlington; three grandchildren, Georgia, Tessa and Lawson Hardy; sisters and brothers-in law, Mary Jo Hardy Major and Brian Major of Piedmont, OK, and Carol Ann Hardy Fulgham and Page Fulgham of Lawrenceville, GA. Howard is predeceased by his parents, Finis Edward and Dorothy Hartin Hardy, life-long residents of Malakoff, TX, and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rockey and Marjorie Harkey of Sinton, TX.
Howard was a graduate of Malakoff High School, University of Texas, and University of Texas School of Pharmacy. He owned and operated pharmacies in Huntsville, TX, and Malakoff, TX. After retirement, Howard worked for many other pharmacies in East Texas.
Howard was a devoted husband and father, grandfather, and was active in his communities of Malakoff and Arlington, where he maintained homes. He was an Eagle Scout and that training guided him throughout his life. Howard enjoyed life to the fullest, and he and Mercedes especially enjoyed ballroom dancing and travel. Howard was a loving and tender-hearted person and always attempted to treat others fairly. He was a life-long learner, an avid reader and researcher in health-related fields, and was a diehard Longhorn fan. His three grandchildren adored their grandad and enjoyed their many times together.
A gathering of family and friends in memory of Howard will be at the family home on Cedar Creek Lake on Sat., Sept. 16, from 2-4. In addition the memorial service will be on Mon, Sept. 18, 11:30 am at Gateway Church, 2404 N Carrier Pkwy, Grand Prairie.
