In the morning hours of Tuesday, February 7, 2017, Robert Louis Patrick of Arlington, Texas and formerly of Athens, Texas completed his journey here on earth and peacefully moved into the presence of Jesus.
Graveside Service: 11:15 a.m. Thursday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble in column B at 11:00 a.m.
Robert was born in Fort Worth on February 18, 1944 to Vertis F. Patrick and Martha V. Thompson. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1962 and was a proud member of the Arlington High Colt Band. While attending college at UTA he joined the United States Army serving in Korea during the Vietnam War, and performing in the military band.
Upon discharge from the military in 1966, Robert married Betty Ann Harris of Arlington, Texas. Graduating in 1970 from East Texas State University with a BA Degree in Music Education, he served as Band Director in Bonham, Texas for two years before moving back to Arlington to serve as a Band Director for AISD under the leadership of his former Band Director, Dean P. Corey.
Robert later transitioned into private business working for Oil States Rubber Company as a Sales Representative. In 1984, he established Dynamic Rubber Products, a rubber manufacturing company specializing in the production of bridge bearing pads for state highway departments.
A successful businessman for over 26 years, Robert never lost his passion for music. After his retirement in 2010, he conducted and led the AHS Colt Alumni Band and spent many hours composing music. One of those compositions, "The Bandmasters March," was written for his alma mater, Arlington High School. It was performed by the AHS Colt Band in the spring of 2014.
Robert loved the great outdoors and was active in Boy Scouts, helping his son Chris attain the Eagle Scout Award, and hiking at Philmont Ranch in New Mexico. He also served as Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Athens.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Vertis F. Patrick and Martha V. Johnson; and brother, Eugene Patrick.
He is survived by, Betty Patrick; children, Jennifer Miller and husband, Andy, Michelle Patrick Sanchez, Chris Patrick and wife, Laura; seven grandchildren.
