Maurice Earl Wright, age 80, of Mt. Pleasant, TX, passed away August 22, 2017. He was born August 10, 1937, in Corsicana, TX, to Carroll Calvin Wright Sr., and Alice (Smalling) Wright. Maurice grew up in Trinidad, TX, where he graduated from high school in 1955. There he played six man football, volleyball and was on the annual staff. While in Trinidad he was also a volunteer fireman. Maurice graduated from Henderson County Junior College in 1957, with an Associates Degree. He then married Pressley Ann Allen later that same year on his 20th birthday. From 1960 to 1962, Maurice proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, OK. While there he graduated from the NCO Academy where he received the Commandants Award. He later worked for Dallas Power & Light and Texas Utilities for 35 years, retiring in 1992. Maurice and Pressley resided in Garland, TX, and Henderson, TX, for most of their marriage and Maurice was a Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Henderson. In his free time he was an avid deer hunter, photographer and storyteller.
Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 60 years: Pressley Wright of Mt. Pleasant; daughters: Maranna Pruitt and husband Craig of Mt. Pleasant and Piper Sanders and husband Mark of Rockwall, TX; brother: Beauford Wright of Rusk, TX; and grandsons: Tyler Pruitt of Grand Prairie, TX, and Carson and Connor Sanders of Rockwall; along with numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Lester Wright and Carroll Calvin Wright, Jr.; and sisters: Blanch Wright, Cleora Fleming, Demetria McPherson and Eugenia Wright.
Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Rest Haven Funeral Home Rockwall Chapel with Pastor Mark Sanders officiating. Entombment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 1:00pm.
