Kenneth Wayne Lane, of Tomball, TX, passed away peacefully at his home on February 9, 2018. He was born on February 11, 1944 in Leagueville, Texas, to Roy and Mae Ellen Lane. He graduated from Brownsboro High School in 1962 where he was Class President, Mr. Brownsboro High School, and a stand-out athlete. He played football, basketball, and track, reaching the state finals in basketball.
He married his high school sweetheart, Ruby Boyd, on August 22, 1964. They came to Houston for their honeymoon and never left. He graduated from the University of Houston where he majored in accounting. He spent most of his career working as a Petroleum Landman and retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice where he was an Auditing Supervisor.
To countless young people he was Coach Lane, a dedicated little league coach and mentor for years. He was a devoted family man, known as Pappy to his 18 grandchildren. Loved by many, he always had a smile on his face and enjoyed chatting with his family, friends, and neighbors, very often in his Tahoe in their driveways.
Besides his love for his family and friends he was loyal until the end to his favorite quarterback Case Keenum. In his retirement, he spent hours every day for years emailing local and national sportscasters and columnist making his argument that Case was a top tier NFL quarterback. He lived long enough to see him make it one game shy of the Super Bowl.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Ruby Boyd Lane, his wife of 53 years; children, Amy Lane Varon, Jason Boyd Lane, Kari Lane Crenshaw, and their spouses; his brother, Roland Lane; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. To his loved ones, he was one of a kind and he will truly be missed.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 15, at Klein Funeral Home - Tomball, 1400 W. Main, Tomball, TX 77375.
