John's Story

Text size

John Michael Young aka "John-John," 49, of Dallas, died Tuesday after a short but well fought battle with cancer. He was born December 14th, 1967 at Parkland Hospital to Dr. John and Patsy Young, welcomed by sisters Kim and Kristy and was soon joined by younger brother, Bohn, with whom he remained inseparable. He was raised in Athens and spent his formative years in Alpine, Texas. He made friends "for life" and fell in love with the game of Football. In the late 70s he met Tom, Sandra, Wes, and Tammy in Section 110 at Texas Stadium and they remained close through his last breath. Their friendship and passion for the Dallas Cowboys carried on to Arlington where they still host tailgate parties to this day. Their tradition was well known among fans and smart opposing fans knew better than to cross their lot after games. In July 2007, a new and cherished love entered John-John's life, his daughter, Sofie. Among the tattoos celebrating his passion (yes, one being a Dallas Cowboys star), was his daughter's handprint on his chest. The third symbolized the love of his life whom he married in July 2016, Heather Hahn. John-John met Heather in November 2015 and when she recently asked him why they only had a short time together, John replied they met because he "needed to know he could be loved" and so did she. John-John was a simple yet traditional man that loved his Dallas Cowboys, Game of Thrones, family, and friends (in that order) but most of all make people laugh. He was a favorite around the holidays as his signature yet thoughtful gag gifts were always the most prized. John-John was genuine, from the heart and loved by many. John-John was preceded in death by his sister Kim and his parents, Patsy and John Young. He is survived by his daughter Sofie and wife Heather Young, Sofie's mom Kellie Whitt, stepsons Thomas and Christian Ferry, sister Kristy Stubbs French, brother Bohn & his wife Brandy Young, sister-in-law, Sloan Foster, and nephews Phin and John-Marshall Stubbs, James French, Brett and Bryce Sawyer, and nieces Lilly French and Brynlee Young. He was THE cool uncle.
Services will be held Saturday, November 25th at 5pm at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N Davis Dr., Arlington, TX. On behalf of his family, we would request that (if you feel comfortable doing so) to wear Dallas Cowboys attire to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to UT Southwestern Medical Center, PO Box 910888, Dallas, TX. 75391 or donate online at utsouthwestern.edu to support Dr. Isaac Bowman, Papillary Renal Carcinoma Research.
