Athens, Texas — Jerry Nelson Warren, 74, died Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at the ETMC Athens Hospital following a brief illness.
Born April 3, 1942, in Seminole, Texas to Larkin P. and Birdie (Johnson) Warren, he leaves his wife of 51 years, Rita (Daniels) Warren; his son, Jerry J Warren and wife Angelia; his daughter, Cheri Warren Shea; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; Sisters Lura Nell Pillow and Nancy Ciavaglia; numerous nieces and nephews; and many close friends including his dog Lucy. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Larkin and Roland Warren.
After graduating from Texas City High School in l961, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1963 and married Rita Jean Daniels in 1965. He was a Radioman 3 and deployed to the Philippine Islands twice during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Long Beach, California and served on the U.S.S. Blue and U.S.S. Bryce Canyon. He was honorably discharged in 1967. He and his family moved to Lufkin, Texas in 1970, where they lived until 2004. His last employment was in sales and installation of security systems at Professional Alarms in Lufkin, Texas. Upon retirement he and Rita moved to Athens, Texas where his father had grown up.
Mr. Warren had a passion for cooking and loved grilling and barbecuing. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting, and gun collecting.
A military funeral service will be held at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery. Date and time will be announced in the near future.
