Visitation will be held on October 6, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Autry's Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home in Athens, Texas. Mrs. Edwards was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on October 2, 2017 in a Tyler hospital.
Jackie D. was born on March 5, 1926 outside of Murchison, Texas to James Benjamin Richards and Julia Leticia Hobbs Richards. Jackie loved her brothers and sisters. She is predeceased by her siblings, including Benjamin Crawford Richards, William Everett Richards, Mary Lou Richards Slater, Lillie Celesta Richards Lawler and James Jordan Richards. She is survived by her youngest sister, Edna Richards Crump. The family loved to get together at the annual Richards reunion, and the sisters loved to travel in their golden years.
Jackie D. met her future husband, Earl Edwards, while attending high school at Brownsboro. They married on July 9, 1944, two months after she graduated from high school. Earl served in World War II, and when he returned, went to work for Lone Star Production, Co. During their employment, which would later become Ensearch Exploration, the family moved many places, including Athens, Texas, Lafayette , Louisiana, Laurel, Mississippi, Pleasanton, Texas, Eastland Texas, back to Pleasanton, Texas, Houston, Texas, Dallas, Texas, and finally back home to Athens, Texas. Then they went finally to the farm in Murchison where the family has enjoyed years of wonderful meals and memories together.
Her greatest joy in this life was being a homemaker and mother to her 5 children, Dana, David, Deborah, Delores and Drayton. She was gifted as a wonderful cook, and always knew how to make a house a home. She was an even better grandmother, and her grandchildren adored her. Grandma Jackie, as she was lovingly called, always had the special treats for each of us, including her hand grenade cupcakes, that each weighed a pound due to the icing on top! She loved watching sports of any kind, especially when her grandkids and great-grandkids were playing, and she loved to watch the Texas Rangers. She enjoyed doing puzzles and watching Wheel of Fortune! She had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved to laugh and smile. She was a member of Barton's Chapel Assembly of God Church, and her ministry of prune cakes and coconut pies will be missed at their eating events.
Left to remember her love, and to always think of her with a smile are her loving family, husband of 73 years, Earl Edwards of Murchison, children Dana and James Thomison of Chandler, David and Evelyn Edwards of Allen, Texas, Deborah and Ralph Griffin of Washington, Utah, Delores Aycock of Springfield, Mo. and Drayton and Jill Edwards of Dallas. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Chip Aycock in January, 2017.
Her grandchildren are Jamie Boyd, Ty and Trista Thomison, Kimbra Carnahan, Jessica and Derek Northup, Andrew and Amy Edwards, Josh and Haleh Griffin, Justin Griffin, Casey and Amanda Aycock, Cody Aycock and fiancé Courtney Duncan and Cooper Aycock;
Her great-grandchildren are Jake Boyd, Ariman First Class Tyler Thomison, Justus Carnahan, Tucker Thomison, Joey Boyd, Autumn Carnahan, Tori Thomison, Jaxon Carnahan, Ellis and Jackie Nothup, Iris and Carver Edwards and Madeleine Griffin.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Barton's Chapel Assembly of God Church.
