Funeral services for Haskell "Hack" Crossley, 87, of Athens are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Dale Perry officiating. Interment will follow at New York Cemetery in Athens.
Mr. Crossley passed away on September 6, 2017 in Athens.
Haskell Barrette Crossley was born November 29, 1929 in Brownsboro, Texas, the son of George Jefferson Crossley and Vennie Williams Crossley. He joined the United States Marines in 1950, and was Honorably discharged in 1953. He was a member of the Living for the Brand Cowboy Church in Athens, and enjoyed reading. Hack never met a stranger, loved to shoot the breeze, and was known as a hard-worker who spent many years working as a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jarvis Crossley.
He is survived by: his daughter, Brenda Moreland and husband Dixon of Sundown; two sisters, Ophelia Pool of Ennis, Maxoline Briggs of Irving; one brother, John Crossley of Athens; two grandchildren, Colten Moreland and wife Kate, Jessica Moreland; three great-grandchildren, Leo Moreland, James Moreland, Piper Nichols; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
