Funeral services for George Frank Brown, 87 Athens have been scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Monday January 9, 2017 at the Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ray Goebel and Bro. James Cox officiating.
Burial will follow at Shelby Chapel Cemetery.
Our loving husband, father and grandpa George Frank Brown went to be with his heavenly father Thursday January 5, 2017 at the age of 87. He was born in Frankston, Texas on November 3, 1929 to Oscar and Jewel Meetze Brown. George grew up in Springfield and Athens Texas. He attended school in Athens. He married Martha Holder November 10, 1949. While married they resided in Seagoville, Texas but still maintained the farm in Athens.
George worked for Fox and Jacobs/Centex Homes for 38 years. George was a dedicated and hard worker. He was a man of his word. He was such a valued employee that his employer had a street named after him. "George Brown Blvd" located in Garland, Texas. He retired in 1995. When he retired he returned to the farm in Athens. George loved to fish, hunt and watch rodeo but his biggest love was for his family. He loved his kids, grandkids, great grandkids and great- great grandkids. They were very special to him. He valued family time that was so precious to him. His sense of humor was such that you never knew when he was joking or not. He was quite a character. George was a Baptist by faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Jewel Brown, sisters; Ollie May Brown, Sally Cox and Thelma Miller.
He left behind his loving wife of 67 years Martha Brown, sons; Doyle Brown and wife Jeanne, Arthur Brown and wife Lori, daughter; Glenda Rickman, all of Athens. Ex-daughter-in-law; Vickie Brown, Crandall, grandchildren; Misti and Shawn Wood and Mindy Brown all of Crandall, Jason and Trisha Peters, Josh and Shawna Rickman and Dylan Brown all of Athens. Seven great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Jason Peters, Shawn Wood, Sam Stevens, Glenn Whittington, Brad Beddingfield and Tyler Wood.
Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Rickman, Dylan Brown and Reilly Wood.
Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday January 8, 2017 from 3-6 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Virginia Hill Baptist Church, P.O. box 328, Athens, Texas 75751.
