Edna Thomason, 100, of Arlington, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017.
Service: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Greenwood-Arlington Chapel. Interment: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Edna was born Dec. 7, 1916 in Guymon, Okla. to Leon and Viola Whitney, the first of 13 children. She married Harvey Matter, June 20, 1937. Harvey was killed April 1, 1945 in World War II. They had one son. She moved to Denison, Texas in 1945 where she met, then married Howard Thomason on June 14, 1946. He died Sept. 3, 2004. They had two daughters.
Edna's favorite hobbies were crocheting, ceramics, yardwork and puzzles. She was very artistic and used those skills in decorating wedding and birthday cakes for the public for 10 years. She was a member of Sublette Road Missionary Baptist Church. She was always very active in church. She sang in the choir, taught 1st and 2nd graders in Sunday school for 45 years and she was a deacon's wife. Her favorite verse in the Bible was Galatians 2:20. She was preceded in death by her son, Dewayne Matter on Feb. 24, 2017.
Edna is survived by: two children, Loretta Jean Bridges and Patricia Ann Wright (Mike); 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Katherine Smith, Dorothy Eaton and Madene McCormick.
