Funeral services for Dexter Monroe, 71, Athens, have been scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Monday, March 27, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Athens with Rev. Jason Smith and Rev. Andrew Wolfe officiating.
Burial will follow at Athens Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.
Mr. Monroe passed away Friday in Tyler.
Dexter was born July 2, 1945 in Eustace, TX to the late Edison and Burena Monroe. Dexter was a graduate of Eustace High School, and a graduate of Stephen F. Austin and East Texas State University in Commerce. After graduation, he was a teacher and coach. He then left the teaching field to become a home builder in East Texas. Dexter built homes for over 40 years in and around Athens. He loved playing golf, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family and friends. He attended First United Methodist Church in Athens.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Patsy Harper; and brother, Eddie Kent Monroe.
Survivors include: his wife, Pamela Monroe of Athens; daughters, Christal Monroe Davis, Prosper, Wendy Marlo Applehof, Huntington Beach, California, Stacy Gross, Athens, Nicole Grigsby, New Braunfels; son, Nick Grigsby, Houston; grandchildren, Taylor Davis, Chase Davis, Sam Applehof, Bella Applehof, Jordan Gross, Megan Gross. Brother; Jack Monroe, Las Vegas, NV.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M., Monday, prior to the service at the church.
