Dewain's Story

Our beloved father, Dewain Kelso Braungardt died on
January 19, 2017. He was born on his grandfather's farm on
September 6, 1921 on Vinita, Oklahoma.
He graduated from Coffeyville High School in Coffeyville,
Kansas at the age of 16. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942 and was discharged in 1946. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in Denver, Colorado. Phillips Petroleum hired him as a Petroleum Engineer in 1953. He was transferred to Casper, Wyoming and worked for them until joining J.M. Huber Corporation where he opened their office in Midland, Texas in 1958. In 1968 he became a right-of-way agent an independent contractor. He worked for Natural Gas Pipeline Company in Houston until his retirement in 1983. In 1988, he moved to Gun Barrel City, Texas, then to Athens, Texas where he lived until his death. During his retirement he enjoyed renovating homes and repairing clocks.
He was married to Beverly Gean Braungardt who met at a USO dance on September 22, 1944. They were married for 71 years before her death on October 22, 2015. Together they established 18 homes and traveled 42 states.
He is survived by his daughters; Karen Braungardt, Kerrie Stewart and husband Claude, and Gail Caudle; four grandchildren, Lora Sherrill and husband James, Cari Nickell, Kati Korner and husband Wesley and Kelly Matheson and husband Andy. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren.
