He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jerry Ann Shirey McPhail and brother- in-law Larry McPhail.
Dan enlisted in the Army at the age of 18 where he spent the next twenty years proudly serving his country with honor. After his retirement from the Armed Services, he went to work for the Department of Corrections in Colorado as a maximum-security corrections officer for the next fifteen years. He then moved back to Texas to be near his dear mother and family residing in Palestine, TX.
In the summer of 2014 he moved to Sherman, TX after the death of his mother to be closer to his beloved nephews and niece and all their children.
