Cecilia Jane Owens Tindel, also known as Memaw, departed peacefully for her heavenly home on May 19th, 2019 from Tyler, TX. She was born August 23rd, 1935 to Elizabeth Marshall Owens and Lymon Owens in Denison, TX.

She graduated from Garland High School and went on to earn a Bachelors and a Master's degree from East TX State College (now Texas A&M University Commerce.)

Cecilia made her home in Athens since 1960 where she was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens.

Over the course of a 36 year teaching career she was known for her patience and kindness, influencing many young minds in a positive direction.

After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, bird watching, garage sales, reading, playing bingo, checkers, dominoes, card games and watching the Dallas Mavericks and Cowboys.

She received excellent care from her caretakers at Arabella Senior Living community over the last four years where she enjoyed great times with awesome friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, Cecilia is survived by her daughter Brenda Jackson and husband John of Athens; sons: Michael Tindel and wife Theresa of Eustace and Kenneth Tindel of North Richland Hills; grandsons: Brady & Chad Tindel; granddaughter: Brandy Epperson and husband Lance ; & great grandsons: Lane, Jackson and Logan Epperson.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 10 am-12 at Autry's Carroll-Lehr in Athens.

Private family burial will follow at Oak Lawn at 2pm.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Henderson County Food Pantry or to the Parkinson's Foundation(parkinson.org)

Your mom was an amazing lady and a dear friend to my mom Johnnie. I always loved visiting with her at Arabella. Am so sorry for your loss - I know you miss her!
