Carolyn's Story

Text size

Carolyn McIntyre, age 78, was born on December 29, 1938, and left her earthly home on February 20, 2017, in Dallas, Texas.  She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas to Cleo G. Fancher and Doris Nell Spradley Fancher.  She was the oldest of 6 children and helped raise and care for her younger sisters and brothers.
Carolyn married Gene McIntyre in 1957 in Dallas, Texas.  They eventually moved to Athens where they raised their three children.  As much as Carolyn loved her children, eventually grandchildren and then her most beloved great-grandchildren, her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ was the driving force of her life.  Through her church, Eastern Hills Church of Christ, Carolyn worked with the children of the church, the greater community of Athens and did all she could to further the Kingdom of God and His Love for everyone, no matter who they were. Carolyn loved her friends and the people of Athens.  Through Eastern Hills Church of Christ, she taught Sunday School, took care of countless nursery babies, catered thousands of meals, led children and youth in worship, taught Vacation Bible School and led women's Bible studies.
Carolyn's greatest earthly love was her family.  She was a constant and unflagging supporter of her children.  She ensured each holiday and special occasion - from birthdays and anniversaries, from first days of schools to first day of summer vacation - all were special and needed to be celebrated with fun!  And there was no holiday like Christmas.  But no matter how many gifts were bought and given, she always reminded the family every year that Jesus had already given us the best gift of all.  Around her house, any visitor would likely find her singing and humming a gospel song and she was always recruiting whomever came in the door to jump in with harmony at any point, especially during Sunday lunch preparations. When the family was together, besides the laughter, there was always singing, cooking and baking.  Carolyn's cakes were the stuff of wedding legend throughout East Texas and baking with her granddaughters made any day a great day.  She was most beloved "Mommom" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and her legacy of unconditional love will be their comfort.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Pamela Johnson and LaNell McAnear; and her daughter-in-law Jan McIntyre.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Gene McIntyre, her children, Toi Markham, and husband, Roy of Fort Worth, Randy McIntyre and wife, Julie of Arlington, and Wade McIntyre and husband, Jeffrey Lester of Dallas.  Her grandchildren; Emily Davis and husband, Adam, Audrey Thurston, Jordan Jasnocha and husband, Zach, and Camryn McIntyre; great-grandchildren, Ryan Davis and Reid Davis; her sister, Mary Cutter and husband, Duane; and her brothers; Gary Fancher and wife, Laura, and Duane Fancher and wife, Sandy. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Carolyn's life and now complete healing will be held at Eastern Hills Church of Christ on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at 2:00PM.
Memorials may be made to the Eastern Hills Church of Christ Women's ministry.
