Funeral services for Betty McLain, 86, Athens have been scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Thursday April 27, 2017 at the Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Fulton officiating.
Private burial will follow at Malakoff Cemetery.
Betty passed away Monday in Tyler.
She was born January 31, 1931 to the late Robert Ireland and Rhoda Lee Cox Sherman. Betty had been residing in Frankston with her husband for the past nine years but spent 70 plus years in the Athens community where she participated in many different civic organizations which she loved. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. And spent many hours at Athens Little Theater participating in a wide range of roles. Betty had many different interests including crocheting and square dancing. She loved to travel especially in her motorhome where she and her husband logged many miles. She loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren and loved to cook for them and it didn't matter what the occasion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Oleta Dowell, Robbie Warren, Maurice Harris, and one brother, W. H. "Sonny" Sherman.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years Robert McLain, Athens, son; Paige McLain and wife Susan, Athens, daughter; Tracy Goodman and husband Mike, Frankston, grandson; Jordan Goodman, Frankston, granddaughters; Taylor Jenkins and husband Richard, Athens, Brooke Ingram and husband Paul, Athens, sister; Frances O'Neal, Rio Rancho, New Mexico, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends has been scheduled for 5:30-7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
