Memorial Service will be held for Barbara "Shorty" Houlett, 71, of Athens, TX at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Athens, with Father Lowry officiating. Barbara passed away Thursday morning surrounded by family.
Barbara was born Nov. 11, 1945 in St. John, Newfoundland. Barbara worked as a nursing assistant in Placentia, Newfoundland where she met and was married to Hank Houlett, on Nov. 19, 1974, while Hank was in the US Marine Corps and stationed in Newfoundland. From that point on, Barbara lived in Norfolk, VA and then Athens, TX where she worked at Cedar Lake nursing home, Curtis Mathis and Argon Medical. Barbara had many friends which were very near and dear to her and were a large part of her life. Survivors include her husband, of 44 years, Hank Houlett; a son and daughter-in-law, Wes and Chrissy Houlett of Richland, WA; daughter, Gwynne Clifton of Athens, TX; stepdaughter, Kimberly Prendergast of Sugar Land, TX; brothers, Ray Johnson and John Ryan of Newfoundland; grandchildren, Shane Clifton, Avery Schroeder, Lauren and Liam Prendergast and her many friends which were very dear to her heart. The family would like to thank Father Nolan Lowry of St. Edwards Catholic Church and the wonderful caring staff Susanna, Bobby and Sharon Walker with Cedar Lake Hospice Care. The Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 5pm. Barbara would have liked all of her friends to feel free to come out and enjoy the Memorial Service in her remembrance.
