Graveside services for Alton Carl Chapman, 74, of Murchison have been scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Monday at Leagueville Cemetery with Bro. Jim Edwards officiating under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.
Alton passed away on July 21, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born January 8, 1942 in Athens to the late Rose and Fonzie Chapman. Alton has been happily married to his wife Kay Chapman for 54 years and have three children.
Alton served 20 years of his life in the United States Navy. He also spent 17 years with Dresser Industries. Alton was also the owner/operator of AKC Septic.
He enjoyed loading up his wagon and mules for trail rides and has rode on many in his lifetime. Alton will be remembered as a man of honor and integrity who was never afraid of hard work, one who is greatly respected and will be deeply missed. A man who loved his family and friends and would do anything for them.
He was preceded in death by daughter Holly Leigh Chapman.
Survivors include his wife Kay Chapman, two sons; Carl Keith Chapman and Chad Eric Chapman. He was also a loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Alton also had three sisters, Diane Meredith and husband Jim of Hugo, Oklahoma, Margaret Godsby and husband Johnny of Hugo, Oklahoma and Carolynn Thomas of Copeville, Texas, he also leaves behind a host of friends as well as numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday July 24, 2016 from 4-6 P.M. at the funeral home.
